The April meeting of the Vancouver Island Woodworker’s Guild will be Tuesday, April 14th, 2025 at 7:15 at Lee Valley Tools in Colwood.
| The Vancouver Island Woodworkers Guild is pleased to have the opportunity to demonstrate and discuss the Shaper Origin at our April Meeting. Russ Campbell will introduce the basic functionality of the unit, components, workspaces, software, and how this technology can complement traditional woodworking. The Shaper Origin is a handheld CNC router – a category of tool invented almost a decade ago, different from the traditional flatbed CNC machines. It has the familiar form factor of a traditional router, with the precision of a high-end CNC machine. The operator steers the Shaper Origin following the path on-screen, while it makes small “auto corrections” within a 1,2 cm range, leaving you with perfect results. Cutting joinery, profiles or patterns, and engraving for signage can all be handled directly on-tool, no programming required. It also works with almost any design software you use. |
