VIWG Pender Island Shop Tour – Saturday, April 19th, 2025

Plans are underway for a VIWG group day trip to Pender Island. So far we are scheduled to visit the shop of Dara WoodWorks. (https://www.darawoodworks.com/) Dave Roberts will talk about how they salvage Arbutus wood, vacuum dry it in their kiln, and the various forms of wood turning they do from wooden hats, bowls, and vases. Alison will also showcase the pepper mills that she turns as well as the hand carving she does. Their shop has several different lathes including a CNC Rose Engine that they use to produce very unique texturing on their turnings. Lunch will be at the Port Browning Pub in between stops. I am also in contact with Run Underhill of the Pender Carvers Group for a second stop on the tour.
This trip will be a full day due to the ferry scheduling, with a tentative meet up time before 9am and a return on the 5:30 pm ferry from Pender Island. We will need to carpool and have some volunteer drivers. Please RSVP asap so that I can finalize numbers and begin to plan carpool groups. Email workshops@viwg.com if you are interested.
