Introduction to Routers

Date: December 9th , 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
The cost will be $20 per person. Materials, coffee, and doughnuts will be provided. Participants will need to bring a lunch.
 
Topics covered during the Session:
Features of the different routers (Eg: Makes, models, bases, speed control, etc)
Basic routing techniques including safety.
Basics of Router bits (straight, round-over, rabbet, chamfer, flush, cove, plus some decorative bits).
Routing Edge profiles
Free hand routing
Plunge routing
Edge guides
Guide Bushings and templates
Circle cutting
Dealing with grain
Time Permitting there will also be some basic work on the Router Table.
 
For Safety reasons the session will be limited to 6 people. These will be grouped into pairs and each pair will have one person operating the router, with their partner acting as the safety person.
A panel will be provided to each pair of participants upon which to do their test cuts.
There are a number of routers of different makes and models available (Triton, Boschh, Dewalt, Makita, Porter Cable, 31/4hp, 21/4hp,1 hp). All attendees will have the opportunity to try all of them out.
