2 X 4 Challenge
The challenge is to use every possible scrap of wood from a 2×4 x 8’ of stock (or equivalently, 5.3 bdft). This could be one single piece, say a lovely butcher block or 2000 tooth picks. The goal is to have as little waste as possible from a given volume of wood. There is only one rule:
The piece or pieces must be made entirely from a single piece (be it a 1×8 or a 2×4, etc). In other words, one species of wood from one tree with a total starting volume of 5.3 bdft.
