Fall Challenge 2021

Fall Challenge 2021 required Guild Members to make “Frames”. These “frames” could be anything from a pair of glasses to a classic picture frame.

The second shot is the framed photograph of me.The concrete block wall is made from four enclosed boxes made from ½” spruce plywood. (C3 at best). It’s full scale. The finish is primer spray coat. – Photo #2

Gordon MacDougall

This is my mirror frame out of live edge holly completed last year. It was a request by my daughter inlaw. Roughly 18″ X 24 ” inside dimensions and finished with Osmo

Michael Harvey

Optical Illusion. This clever design appears to be a partly opened gate in a frame. It actually consists of wood outlines glued onto a mirror, so the panel is entirely flat. They are often placed on garden fences and can be very large, made of rough lumber, and painted in bright colours. This one is made of Garry oak, with wrought iron hinges and a small knob. The finish is polyurethane. The client wanted it fairly small and will keep it indoors to give the impression of more space in a small room.

Beveled mirror frame , figured Maple and Walnut.

Randy Dahlquist

This frame around the mirror is only interesting because of the arbutus pull which is just a shameless plug for wood recovery. – Photo #1
This is just the test piece for fitting the shelves in the #1 photo project. It did however make me look at the nice curve it created in the middle of the board. – Photo #2
The curve was cut using a stop on the miter and just doing many repeat cuts and then way to much sanding. So I ended up with this profile. – Photo #3
The relief on the back lifts it off the wall which I quite like. It makes it look lighter. – Photo #4
The overall frame was a bit disappointing in that the curve is not that pronounced. Having the walls of the dado as reference made the curve seem bigger. If, big if (see sanding above) I made it again. I would be bolder and use a piece of  stringing to mark the top edge of the curve to accentuate it. – Photo #5
