Wooden Spoons and Other Utensils

The Guild was recently contacted by Rob Brown, Editor - Canadian Woodworking & Home Improvement. Rob is looking for a few photos of carved wooden spoons and utensils to include in an upcoming edition of Canadian Woodworking. He will need the final images and a bit of information on each piece (name of maker, title of piece, material) by Monday, May 18th. If you're interested, contact Rob at or by telephone at 705.931.3126

Membership Dues Adjustment

At the April Executive meeting, the Guild Executive discussed the many ways Covid-19 is impacting our organization and its members. One of the key concerns was the recognition that we need to do what we can to ensure we do not lose members during this time due to financial hardship. To address this the executive looked at several options such as waiving or postponing membership dues for those laid off or financially impacted by the economic slowdown. Eventually it was decided that the most equitable and simplest option was to grant all existing members a 3 month extension to their current membership. This means, for example, that those members that currently have an anniversary date of March will in the future be asked to renew their membership in June. All profiles in the roster will be adjusted to the new anniversary dates. Eventually reminders will be sent out advising each member when their annual renewal is due.

It should be noted that the Guild is in a position to absorb this reduction in income with little or no impact on our programs. Executive felt that with every aspect of our society being impacted by this pandemic we as an organization should give back to those who support us. We hope this will be a benefit to all of our members.

Visions in Wood - 2020 "Virtual Show"

As you know, the 2020 edition of Visions in Wood Exhibition and Sale has been postponed. The Show was scheduled to open to the public on April 22nd in the Gallery at Cedar Hill for a three-week run. We are hopeful that it will eventually be re-scheduled in that venue.
It was suggested that we create an online version. With the support of the makers providing pictures of their completed projects, Visions In Wood 2020 - the Virtual Edition, came to be. It is now available to view on the Guild website. While it doesn't allow you to get down on your hands and knees to check underneath the pieces to examine the joinery in detail, it does mean that we are not hampered by the physical space restraints of the Gallery! Also included are artistic contributions from members of the Al Frescoes group of painters who were invited to display their artwork on the Gallery walls during our Show.

Thank you to all the member-makers for your craftsmanship and for your efforts in support of The Show!

Check it out...and check back often. New pictures will be added as pieces are completed and submitted.
